Empowering the girl child

It is said that the nine days of  Navaratri are very powerful (full of shakti). This prompts me to find out what is this Shakti, how do we develop Shakti in us and how can we utilize this Shakti once we receive it through God and the Guru’s grace.

I could feel the Shakti or power in the divine energy during meditation in these 9 days. It was as if the atmosphere was full of power, compared to the other days.  Ma Durga was filling us with Shakti so that we seekers can continue our sadhana in a better way. Om Namah Shivayah chanting instruction by our Pujya Gurumaa has been one blissful experience where one can experience the power within i.e. the Kundalini Shakti. The chanting starts with a crescendo and slowly becomes quieter and quieter, finally fading out and the mind enters into meditation.  It is  an excellent method of pratyahar.

What I understand of this Shakti is the developing of virtuous qualities such as forbearance, patience, love and kindness as well as compassion. The victory of good over evil i.e. Shakti over the opposing forces or rakshasas is the victory of the self over the rakshasas of the mind. The rakshasas tempt us to be angry, not to look upon all beings as the manifestations of the Lord, they take us away from satvic food, make us hate and be jealous.  But if we develop the power within us through meditation, selfless service or seva, by reading the lives of great men and the scriptures (not only reading but understanding their essence), living in the company of holy men and likeminded people and our discussions are spiritual, satvic and of social significance, if our mind and body are both clean through asans, pranayam and meditation, the battle of the senses is won.

The lesson to be learnt is that each one of us has to become a Durga. We have to make the world a better place for all to live in. As Durga vanquishes the demons, Yog Nidra vanquishes the demons of our past karmas. Urja Dhyan and pranayams make us healthy and remove all blockages. Asanas help in removing stiffness and make our bodies healthy. Prayers and chanting invoke divine blessings.for more logon to Project Shakti

The Guru’s love for her shishyas and even the world at large is boundless. In this scenario, Gurumaa saw the plight of girls in India where they were being killed in the womb and even if they saw the light of day, they were being treated as second-rate citizens in the sphere of education and equality. From the depths of her heart full of compassion for all beings, Gurumaa decided to uplift and empower the girl child. To give effect to a program solely for the development of the Girl Child, the Shakti initiative was commenced.
Mission Shakti provides financial support to the Girl Child for her education. The Girl Child eligible for the grant under this program should be the daughter of a widow, handicapped parents or a war martyr. The grant would be payable for the Girl Child’s education upto the 12th standard. The program has moved ahead to offer computer education to the hitherto neglected girl child. A Computer Awareness Education Program has been launched for the girls of theGovernment
School at Sonepat, which is one of the worst affected areas in terms of declining sex ratio.

Till date, more than 125 girls in
India are the beneficiaries of the Shakti Program. The initiative is also supporting girls who wish to pursue higher courses such as Nursing and Pharmacy. Special meditation camps are organized for the youth where Gurumaa introduces them to spirituality and they are also taught how to defend themselves by experts in the field. Gurumaa has also adopted 40 orphan girls in Mumbai. Plans are afoot to make a documentary on the Shakti Project to increase awareness about it. A Computer Learning Centre for Girls is also on the anvil. All these measures require a large amount of funds, which is being made possible from the sincere efforts of the global Rishi Chaitanya family. Contributions to this noble cause are accepted online through www.gurumaa.com as well as through DD/cheques payable to Shakti Vidya Nidhi Kosh.

We have indeed come a long way but unfortunately towards creating an imbalance in our society. According to the report of United Nation Population Fund, Key findings include:

  • A national decline from 945 to 927 in the number of girls per 1,000 boys aged 0-6 between 1991 and 2001.
  • 1981-91 census shows 1.37 crore more boys than girls.
2001 census shows there are 42 crore children, with boys outnumbering girls by 1.98 crores.
  • A grave situation in states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat where the ratio has drastically declined to fewer than 800 girls for every 1,000 boys.
  • A low child sex ratio in certain districts, including the South West District of Delhi, which are “amongst the most prosperous in the country”.
State 1991 2001
Punjab 875 793
Haryana 879 820
Gujarat 928 878
Delhi 915 865
Himachal 951 897

Experts predict that if the trend continues, and reaches the dangerous levels of Haryana or Punjab, the Indian society will have to grapple with severe problems including spiraling crime, trafficking of women and related social problems.

Killing of girls by putting a sand bag on their face or by throttling her within hours of being born is not a rare phenomenon. Besides, the practice of pre-birth-elimination of female foetuses is one of the major factors responsible for this decline. And the cause of more women resorting to this practice is because of their preference for sons. In Indian context sons are preferred as they are considered a source of support during old age and for performing religious rites at the time of cremation and subsequently. Preference for sons shall not disappear until girls are empowered as much as boys.

Empowering the girl child through education is an indispensable tool to curb the growing menace of gender inequality, declining sex ratio, and discriminatory treatment given to women in India. Empowered woman is strong enough to stand as a support for her family and community at large. She further contributes to the prospects of next generation.

{March 12, 2008}   What Is SHAKTI ?

INTRODUCTION: Shakti program is introduced by Anandmurti Gurumaa to empower girl child for healthy society.

NEED OF SHAKTI: In our society, which is called educated society is still doing foolish work. Parents are murdering their girl child before their birth at the stage of fetus. They are still on that lowest foolish level where boys are assets and girls are liabilities. To over come this type of difference Shakti program is established.

AIM OF SHAKTI: Aim of Shakti is to remove the foolishness of society about urge of boy than girl. Shakti says baby is just baby. Baby does not know whether he is a boy or she is a girl. Shakti program wants to tell the truth that girls are similar to boys even one step advanced.

WHAT SHAKTI DO: Shakti program have very wide concept. They are empowering the girl child by providing them free education named CEAP. In this activity main focus is on girls to develop more confidence, make them earning hand in the family like boys. Shakti providing the education aid up to 12th to the girls of poor widow, handicapped one means who is really needy.

PANKAJ ARORA

Today we were shown video of Shakti project by Gurumaa and disciples. as far I think, this project if implemented properly will have much beneficial effect on the development and standard of the country.

As today my new friend who met me in Ashram told that girl must be educated. she is the most responsible person for the development of children.

India is facing lot of major problems because of illiteracy. First of all, female foeticide which as today I have seen during class is prevented because of the wrong thinking of the people, which can be changed with education usually see mothers like our maid servant unnecessarily beating their children, not bother to send them to school. She doesn’t provide them proper hygienic things neither she advise them also. I feel pity on them.

It is because she herself is not educated. shakti project with god’s grace may become successful and remove such problems. Many children indulge in wrong activities ,it has major reason because their parents have never stopped them.

Education provides then opportunity to do jobs. In India, girls are given inferior status and they are only prepared to household work. Even they are educated by preparing this in mind that they will get better home.

I think cultural values are right. Girls as a daughter, wife and mother should obey her duty properly but this doesn’t mean she should not be educated rather through education; she can obey these duties well. I pray to god that this project would succeed.

{March 10, 2008}   We Should Not Kill Our Girls

Today in Ashram I have seen a cd about shakti program started by Anandmurti Gurumaa. This is a women empowerment programme which provide financial help to girls of poor widow and handicapped parents .One has just to register the name and her fee upto twelth class would be given by trust.

As sex ratio is decreasing day by day in India ,this programme would be a boom in empowering female child.People prefer male child to female because of various superstitious myths. They think that female is a weight on them. Hence they are not provided with good education and other facilities.

This programme aims at providing support to the girls. This is a programme which has made many people aware about the importance of girls and bringing them equal to boys in the society. This programme has uplifted many women in Punjab and Haryana by giving them information about computers and internet.

In India sex ratio is decreasing alarmingly. It was 967/1000 in 1951 and 927/1000 in 2001.Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat have less than 900 females/1000 males. The result is that there is increase in crime against females in the present days. If the situation continues, than there can be great increase in crime in future. If we have to make balance in the nature then we should not kill our girls instead we should give respect, love and affection.

Females can make a better world conditions apply: if they are provided with education.

People should remember that “ Females are not e- mails one should not delete them”.

{March 7, 2008}   The Empower Of The Girls

Today the world is getting so much disgusting human beings themselves given the place of Goddess and in the 20th century, these girls have been ruined under the feet of human beings. Most of the people don’t want girls because of the old myth, the boys can take care of the parents in the future, generally the people think that the girls are the liabilities because when they have to marry they have to give dowry. But the people does not understand that today girls have reached the heights and can stand equally with boys.Without girls the world wouldn’t be the peaceful place. Due to decreases in population of girls, there would be crime. The most prospecting states like Punjab,Haryana,Gujrat have less number of population of girls. These are the states known for developing states in the country. To increase the population of girls, there should be proper education among the people. Shakti is one which has been going against the people to don’t ruined the girls. Due to shakti 4000 girls in Punjab and Haryana are getting education. Shakti is also providing computer knowledge to the girls while going in different schools.

{March 6, 2008}   Shakti Based On Girls

Shakti is based on girls. In India almost all parents wants boys in comparison to girls because of old mindedness. They know that boy is the right hand of them. They give good knowledge and higher studies to their son. But to their daughter they teach how to live in the house of her husband. But this is wrong. In the present age of India girls are more interested in their studies in comparison to boys. If we give them higher qualification they make a better world. Shakti is a programme sponsored by Gurumaa that all girls are like as boys and they can do that work which boy never did. The present ratio of girls in India in comparison to 1000 boys is 922 and this is the fault of their parents that they want boy. Some states which are more responsible are :-

Punjab - 822 girls - 1000 boys

Haryana – 810 girls - 1000 boys

Delhi - 789 girls - 1000 boys

So please help the girls to teach them as better as you can because girls are like as the Goddess of the Earth. So give them higher and higher education for our better world.

Not only pray for boys but also pray for girls. This is my request to all the parents.
